Art major and library school?
Recently I’ve begun working in Special Collections at my college’s humanities library, and I have fallen in love with it. I could see myself doing this for the rest of my life. I’ve heard that it is possible to get an MLS/MLIS, etc. with a variety of undergrad degrees. Is this true? I’m getting my degree in Fine Arts, and I’m a little discouraged after reading UToronto’s admissions information, which was pretty dismissive of coursework in the arts. My ideal program would have some sort of archives track and/or opportunity to do coursework in book history, bookbinding, palaeography, and so on, although I know it would be possible to supplement my actual degree with coursework at the Rare Book School or similar institution. I do have significant coursework in History and English - I was a Medieval Studies major before I switched to art. Most of my senior year coursework, however, will be in art because I declared my major so late. Have any of you had experiences, first or second-hand, about arts degrees and these kinds of programs? Thanks in advance! (Source: Library Lovers’ LiveJournal)
